Hazard Identification And Analysis Studies

Hazard identification and analysis studies

Providing clients with the specialist expertise required to lead workshop based studies for the identification and management of risks associated with the operation of plant and facilities. TESARI’s consultants are both Chartered Professional Engineers and TÜV certified Functional Safety Engineers.

HAZOP facilitation in accordance with IEC 61882 – Hazard and operability Studies

The HAZOP method is the globally recognised procedure for analysing process designs through the application of a rigorous set of guidewords to identify causes of deviations from the intended operation. Where the behaviour is undesirable and may result in an unsafe state, actions to address the risks are defined to improve the design with respect to safety and operational reliability. The objectives of a HAZOP study are to:

  • Ensure that the hazardous aspects of the design are fully addressed.
  • Ensure that the design is safe and can be operated safely and.
  • Provide an auditable record of the analysis.
LOPA facilitation in accordance with IEC 61508 – Functional Safety of Electrical/Electronic/Programmable Electronic Safety-related Systems

Layers of Protection Analysis (LOPA) is an IEC 61508 accepted methodology for the determination of the Safety Integrity Level (SIL) required of Safety Instrumented Functions (SIF) that provide protection against unsafe process conditions in operational plant.

This semi-quantitative analysis defines the scenarios that lead to unsafe states of equipment under control, the severity of the consequences, and through the application of failure rates of the elements determines the frequency of hazardous events. This information is then mapped against risk tolerability criteria to determine the required risk reduction factor, in the form of a SIL for the safety function providing protection of the plant.
